Arise, Christians, Arise {A Poem}

Be the Light

Stand up, Christians
Put down the lime-green sharpie
coloring leaves in our
relaxation books when
a nation needs our prayers-our voice.
Because babies upon babies die each day
by the swallow of a pill or
the suction of a tube.
Because the great divide
is a mountain of tension
between the black and the blue
where lives are lost
sides are taken, a standoff
tearing apart our nation.
Wake up, Christians
Let us remove our noses
from our theology books
minds filled with knowledge
but feet lame in practice.
Let us be ashamed of our stupor
wipe the sleep from our eyes
and in repentance weep.
Arise, Christians, arise.
